This site-specific art installation titled, The Office, was created for The Birdsell Project, which granted 20 artists each a room in an abandoned, 19th century stone mansion in downtown South Bend, IN. The mansion's history as a home later to be converted into office space inspired my idea to marry the two, creating a home office set in the mansion's last era of occupancy. All signs of abandonment and neglect were eliminated, creating a trompe-l’oeil affect that would stand in contrast to the remainder of the mansion. Visitors were welcome to spend time in the room and socialize, have a drink, watch television or look through scrapbooks and magazines containing local history. Classic rock, folk & soul records played on the hifi console while old programs and advertisements looped on the television.
